How long have you been in business?
We have been at the Poughkeepsie location operating under Tax Alternative Group LLC since July 2013. Prior to that, the practice was operated at CHR Associates in Salt Point, NY since 1998.
What is your primary product or service?
We provide tax strategies for individuals and small business owners. We provide preparation of federal and state tax returns, taxpayer representation before the IRS and state tax authorities, and proactive tax planning.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I have been involved in tax and financial services since 1990. I enjoy working with people and helping them solve their tax problems. I am a 1993 graduate of Marist College, I've worked in a variety of business settings, to include investments, accounting, labor relations, and occupational safety. I understand many of the problems faced by today's small business owners. I re-positioned our firm in 2013 to focus on Tax Problem Solving through Representation and Planning after being awarded the title of Fellow by the National Tax Practice Institute, and becoming a Certified Tax Coach.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are a small specialty tax firm that focuses on Tax Strategies to save tax payers while audit proofing returns. We believe that a dollar saved in tax is more valuable than an extra dollar earned. We learn your business and develop tax strategies to maximize deductions, credits, and the use of loopholes.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We are currently located at 695 Dutchess Turnpike in Suite 202. Our practice is growing as our clients tell their friends and family about our services.

We are located on Rt 44 between Adams Fairacre farms and Burnett Blvd. Our offices are located on the 2nd floor of 695 Dutchess Turnpike in Suite 202.

We accept cash, checks, Paypal and all major credit cards.
Which areas do you service?
We currently serve clients in 18 different states. Most of our clients come from Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, and Westchester Counties.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
The Company is owned and operated by members of Tax Alternative LLC and operated by a team of professionals managed by Patrick O'Hara and Amy Lawer, both Enrolled Agents, licensed by the U.S. Treasury to assist taxpayers before the IRS.
What are your hours of operation?
Our office hours are by appointment only. We are available by phone Monday through Friday 9AM-5pm
